The Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale-3 (ITERS-3) and the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS-3) are observation tools used in childcare settings, preschools, and Early Head Start and Head Start programs.  The ITERS-3 is used in infant and toddler classrooms and the ECERS-3 is used in preschool-aged classrooms.  The Environment Rating Scales assess the quality of interactions between adults and children.  Additionally, the ITERS-3 and ECERS-3 assess the schedule and routines, materials, and spaces accessible to children.  This four (4) hour training provides a basic understanding of the ITERS-3 and ECERS-3.

Objectives

Participants will:

• Learn some of the important concepts and terms used frequently in the scales,
• Learn about the scoring system,
• Understand how using the scale can impact the quality of early childhood programs.
